Celebrating 30 years

Having reached the 30-year mark in the textiles industry, Ali Davies is reflective of the evolving landscape of textiles. Despite the absence of job opportunities for textile designers in New Zealand, she has leveraged her skills as a printer and illustrator to secure bespoke projects and has a collection of designs featured in stores nationwide. Ali’s journey to success has been gradual, with success attributed to a particular design that has stood the test of time.

Characterising her work as eclectic, conversational, harmonious, and peaceful, Ali eschews being confined to a singular artistic label. Instead, she navigates market trends by infusing her designs with a sense of uniqueness and timelessness, striving to strike a delicate balance.

Expressing a sense of unfulfilled ambition, Ali acknowledges the vast library of designs she has amassed over the years and remains optimistic, with the knowledge that there is now more awareness of the need for sustainable textiles and a growing appreciation of New Zealand craft and design.
